She walked her fruit orchard, looking for the perfect apple. Calliope sought the one that was deep crimson, shiny as glass, and hanging low on a branch, its sweet juices weighing it down. There, down the row, she spotted it. She hurried over to it, pulled it from its stem, and was about to bite into it when she caught a whiff of cinnamon. Calliope immediately dropped the apple and turned in a circle, looking around her orchard. She knew that the wicked witch nearby had been plotting to poison her to steal her youth, but Calliope had also heard that the witch used cinnamon to cover the acrid smell of the poison.
